We’re lucky to work with some wonderful businesses across London, Kent and the South East. One such client is Watermark Homes Limited, an independent property development company based in Chislehurst in South London. Watermark creates beautiful, affordable homes for discerning homebuyers. We asked John Friis, co-founder of the company, to answer our quick-fire questions.
Tell us about Watermark Homes and your role in the business.
Watermark Homes is a property development company, building homes in South London and Kent. Our family-run business was formed in 2016 by my wife, Waty Rahman-Friis, and me. We’re both former NHS hospital doctors but also experienced property professionals. Our ethos lies in creating quality homes that are functional in design, affordable, and also places of welcome and sanctuary. We believe that everyone deserves a home like this.
What are the key bookkeeping challenges facing businesses in the property development sector?
Apart from the usual issues facing most businesses – payroll and VAT payments – there are challenges specific to the property industry. These include CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) payments and dealing with accounts from multiple SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) limited companies simultaneously.
What led you to contact AMR?
AMR was recommended by Perrys Accountants, with whom we have been working since 2017. We set up an initial meeting with one of AMR’s directors, Estelle Hardwick, and came away from that meeting knowing that we had found the right firm to work with.
How has AMR helped your business?
We have been working with AMR since 2018 and they perform all our bookkeeping duties. Neither Waty nor I have a background in accounting so the service AMR provides is invaluable. Waty and I really value working in an open, collaborative manner with other people and other companies and that is exactly how AMR operates. I would have no hesitation recommending AMR to other property professionals.
Watermark Homes Limited strives to create homes that are high in quality, functional and practical in design, affordable to buy or rent, and are sanctuaries of welcoming and safety. To find out more visit the Watermark Homes website.
