June Newsletter

Morning/Afternoon

We can hardly believe that it’s been 3 months since our last newsletter and we are
heading into Summer anxiously awaiting a “heatwave”!

We have seen some changes within the team, welcoming Justyna as an experienced
bookkeeper and Chloë Gurney as our new junior payroll administrator/admin assistant taking over from Isobel who left earlier in the year.  We are excited to have them on board and they are also looking forward to working with all our clients to assist with your bookkeeping and payroll requirements.

VAT Registration Helpline Closes

Following trials taken place in 2022 HMRC have decided to permanently close the VAT
registration helpline with effect from 22 May 2023.  The reasoning behind this move is to better improve their VAT service and allow their team members to focus on processing
applications and steer them away from the phones where they are mostly answering queries about the progress of applications made.

HMRC have recently been able to achieve their target of a 40 day turnaround by
implementing these changes to the department.

This does unfortunately mean that if we are looking for an update on a VAT application we will have to take the digital approach and email them on vrs.newregistrations@hmrc.gov.uk or visit their website

Neonatal Leave

This may be a topic that you have missed but it caught our attention because it poses a very interesting and welcome law change.

The neonatal care (leave and pay) bill has passed it’s second reading in the House
of Lords after clearing the House of Commons and will allow parents whose babies require neonatal care up to 12 weeks of paid leave, in addition to other leave entitlements such as maternity and paternity leave.

With around 700,000 babies being admitted to neonatal units each year this new law will help to relieve the financial stress and allow families to care for their new-born.

Once this law has been passed we will let you know.

If you have any queries with any matter then please do get in touch.

Many thanks
